Portland Hardscaping Services started with a simple observation: Portland homeowners have some of the best outdoor living potential in the country, and most of them aren't taking advantage of it. The Pacific Northwest climate, the lush natural setting, the craftsman architecture — it all sets the stage for incredible outdoor spaces. You just have to build them right.
We focus exclusively on hardscaping and landscape construction across the Portland metro. That means patios, retaining walls, paver driveways, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, fire pits, landscape steps, water features, and full outdoor living renovations. We've worked on everything from a simple flagstone path in a Sellwood backyard to complete hillside terracing projects in Lake Oswego and West Linn.
Portland Hardscaping Requires Local Knowledge
The Pacific Northwest isn't forgiving to contractors who don't know what they're doing here. Portland's clay-heavy soil holds water in ways that destroy improperly built patios and retaining walls within a few seasons. The annual rainfall — 37 inches, falling mostly October through May — means every patio needs real drainage slope, every retaining wall needs proper drain pipe and aggregate backfill, and every poured concrete surface needs adequate control joints for freeze-thaw movement.
We've done the work here long enough to know what fails and why. The number one cause of failed Portland hardscaping is base preparation that was rushed or skimped on. The visible surface — the pavers, the stone, the concrete — is only as good as what's underneath it. We don't cut corners on base work, because that's exactly where the long-term value of a project lives.
